Established in 1869 and named after Robert Patton’s home town in Perthshire, Scotland, Methven Mt Hutt Village is a rural service town situated one hour from Christchurch in the central South Island of New Zealand, just off the Inland Scenic Route 72 at the foot of Mt Hutt.

Each year thousands of visitors from around the world base themselves at Methven Mt Hutt Village, at the heart of seven ski areas and over 1000 square kilometres of the best heli-skiing terrain in New Zealand.

The village is also a popular summer resort for overseas visitors and New Zealand residents alike, the region’s mountains and back country lakes offer adventurous outdoor activities.

Methven is a dynamic mix of generations old farms and up and coming real estate. It’s a lively ski town in the winter bringing with it a huge influx of travellers both international and domestic, who are all up for a good time.

In the summer it’s a peaceful place to stop on a sightseeing tour and relax amongst some of the region’s most beautiful scenery. It’s also home to some of the kindest, most generous people you will ever meet.

Methven is still very much a community. It is a place where people stop on the street and say hello. It is a place where people invite you round to their place to see the farm, take you out for a day of milking cows, just because you haven’t been before. It’s a place where people genuinely care about each other and do everything they can to help each other out.

The Brown Pub has always been at the heart of the Methven community. It carries the stains of its history of hospitality with age and dignity. It’s the spot where keys are dropped off for someone, or something borrowed is returned for the owner to collect. Every week, all the locals seem to find each other down at the Brown. They drop by for a beer and a chat to keep themselves in touch with all the people who have made up their lives over the years.
