Summer brings hot summer days and long warm evenings. Light up the barbeque and swim or fish until dark which in mid-summer is around 10pm. It’s a great climate for enjoying months of open spaces, wonderful scenery, boundless recreation or just fun and companionship with family and friends.

Autumn ushers in beautiful clear blue skies you can almost touch if you take a hot air balloon ride over the Canterbury Plains. See the vibrant colours of the leaves down in the village or out in the backcountry as you explore the many rustic walkways on offer.

Winter is very welcome here, with its clear, crisp air as the first snows cap the mountains. Time to wax the skis and snowboards for the opening of the snow season, right at your door. Awakening to a frost with a hot coffee, keenly anticipating the warm sunny day to follow is truly invigorating.

Spring arrives with lambs frolicking in the lush grass. A walk through the gardens delights the sense with a proliferation of magnificent blossoms and bursting spring flowers.
